However, I have created this challenge into something far bigger than the usual running challenge – ‘Run Donna Run’ is a major fundraiser for a cause that is very close to my heart. You see, my challenge started when at 8 years old, I had a stroke. I was in a critical state in intensive care and am very lucky to have survived.

Wow, I am running my first marathon this year at The Melbourne Marathon on October 13! Why? This is my story.
Known as ‘The Mystery Girl’ at 8yrs of age, by Doctor’s at the Royal Children’s Hospital, my condition was extremely unusual. With serious findings in my diagnosis; hemiplegia – the right side of my body was immobile from damage to the left side of my brain, meningitis – inflammation of brain membranes that protect the spinal cord, staphylococcal septicemia – blood poisoning, loss of speech, enlargement of my spleen, endocarditis – a hole and murmur in my heart and losing my ability to walk. Doctor’s reported to my concerned parents that I would never walk again.

ELWOOD’S Donna Campisi never dreamed she would run a marathon at age eight, doctors told her she would never walk again.
The stroke survivor proved them wrong, getting out of her wheelchair after twelve months and going on to regain full mobility.
But Ms Campisi had never dared to run until last November.
“I just never felt confident to try,” she said.
With the help of running coaches, Shaun and Chris from Brewsters Running, the 42-year-old will run in the Melbourne Marathon on October 13 and raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital
